Starting A Home Based Business Steps For Success

  • Posted on July 13, 2010 at 5:47 am

Following these basic steps when starting your new company can help ensure your long term success. Get organized. I am a firm believer that your environment is conducive to your success. So get organized and be professional. Get a date book or app on cell phone that will handle your scheduling and serve the reminders. Treat this area of your home like your business. Do you want t o come in your office an see dirty laundry and the kids toys all over the floor? I also advocate going to work in the other room dressed professionally. Don’t start making calls in your PJ’s. Get on a budget. You should already be on one personally and a business is no different. This would be part of the business plan. Optimally, I would get out of debt first before launching a business. Having a business plan. A plan is very important so when I say don’t spend too much time on this initially I mean spend time on the important issues of your short term plan. Your probably not giving this to a bank. Just get your goals and expectations in there and review them daily. I think some small businesses let this really bog them down. Just put together a 6 month plan at first as you get things up and running. Plans change so frequently that it makes more sense to be flexible in your planning. This would cover the corporate documents, sales etc. . . You might find your entire business model changes in the first two weeks. Planning ahead for Murphy type situations. We all know Murphy’s law is bound to happen so go ahead and prepare for this mentally and financially. Being organized and having an emergency fund will help smooth the murphy curve into a bearable situation. What is a worst case scenario? You find there is problem with a product you sent to all your customers or there is typo on a custom product and your clients start calling and demanding their money back. That type of day. They happen!Saving money. Before you get things running it is nice to know how much money you are going to need based on what your service or idea is. Having a cash buffer is nice to start but not a necessity. Hopefully your business won’t require much cash to start. Use the phone to solicit opinions from customer or have a brief questionnaire ready to ask some brief questions. You will be surprised at how well you will be received in most cases. Customers are anxious to have solutions to problems. You can be the one to help them fix it. Test. Before I did any fillings for corporate status, I tested my idea. I want to see if this is going to work before I spend money or make any investment aside from phone calls and office paper. That really is the great thing about the internet and being in a home today. I can look more professional online than many fortune 500 companies. I don’t condone breaking local and federal laws but make some calls to your potential customers see if it looks realistic to pursue before you start.

5 Steps to Internet Home Business Success

  • Posted on June 9, 2010 at 11:44 am

The most popular reasons that people fail with Internet Home Businesses, are that they either expect everything to happen straight away with no effort, or have no time, no money or just lack the motivation to keep on going through the hard and quiet times. Here are 5 Steps that you can take to keep your business on a roll and making it successful.

Step 1: MIND SET

This is actually very overlooked yet is one of the most important parts in creating a successful Internet or Home Based Business. You need to stay focused, motivated, persistent and consistent and have the drive to get things done even when you don’t feel like doing them. A very good way to do this, is get everything out of the way around your house etc, like chores. So when it’s time to sit down and get your work done you have complete focus.

Step 2: Find Your Quiet Space

If you do not have a spare room to set up your office, then you are going to need to find a quiet area around your house so you are not going to get distracted. Set your office up and make it feel like your office, put up a curtain if you need to just make it your space (Your quiet space). If you have a family or are living with someone, set guidelines and or rules. Like when you are working you are not to be interrupted for a certain period of time.

Step 3: Create A Schedule

This is a very important step. I myself create a weekly schedule every week without fail. If you do not do this, your business will become a mess. Each week sit down somewhere quiet and away from the computer and write out the up coming weeks schedule for your business on paper. Each day set yourself tasks that you need to complete and do them. This is going to help you get a heck of alot done and in actually a shorter period of time compared to sitting down at the computer and trying to decide what to do for that day.

Step 4: Business Plan

What is the point in having a business without a plan. If you are with an affiliate program most will have a plan in place, but you are also going to need your own. This is going to take alot of research but is going to be very beneficial for you and your business in the long run. Search on Google and Yahoo and type in the search box “Internet Business Plans” or “How To Create a Business Plan” etc. And every so often tweak it, keep what is working and make it better and dump what isn’t.

Step 5: Setting Goals

To keep you motivated and driven to succeed you are going to need to set long term and short term goals. Long term might be quitting your job within a year, and your short term goal might be to pay off your car loan within 6 months. Again as your business grows your goals will change. And this is a good thing, keep changing your goals as you see fit.

So there you have it. 5 Steps to help your Internet or Home Based Business succeed. Follow these steps, tweak them if you have to but just stay focused and driven. It is also a great plan to show to your sales team or downline.

Yours in success,

Small Steps that Business can use to Save Money and Reduce Carbon Emissions

  • Posted on May 23, 2010 at 6:39 pm

Small to medium business is being squeezed hard by the global financial crisis at the same time as it is being asked to cut its carbon emissions. Their challenge is to realize that by going green and reducing waste they also save money. we have reached a point where most forms of energy are increasing in cost and are in short supply. We have polluted our atmosphere and we need to slow the rate of pollution down and governments around the world are setting up greenhouse gas emission restrictions. Small to medium business needs to be able to reduce costs and also reduce their wastes and this includes energy, materials and human effort. Business also needs to do this without an extra time commitment. Or cash flow to make changes because business also has to cope with global financial chaos. With all the problems that businesses faces at present, why do they need to add carbon trading and carbon reduction to the mix?It is a fact that we have serious and increasing atmospheric pollution. This is man made and has been measured and this if the cause of climate change and global warming! This is measurable fact. We have changed the chemical composition of the atmosphere by pouring carbon dioxide, methane and other gases into the atmosphere for form an invisible (but measurable “doona” of pollution in our atmosphere holding heat in. This is unarguable and is putting our children and grandchildren’s future at risk. We ignore this at THEIR peril. Around the world governments are bringing in Emission Trading Schemes and surveys show that most businesses have no idea what that will involve – it is yet another demand. Businesses owners are increasingly caught in a juggling act trying to balance work, home, higher costs and now pressure ro reduce their carbon footprint and in many cases even start carbon accounting. BUT reports show consumers increasingly patronise businesses that show they consider the impact of their business on the environment. This is a growing market segment and that is important in tough economic times. All around the world people want to help the environment. In Australia this is over 90 % and surveys show more than 50% of us are even prepared to pay more for environmentally friendly products and services In fact most people (53% in UK, 63$ in the USA, 45% in China, believe that tackling climate change will benefit the economyOK so it means we need to make some changes now but many of these will actually save money once we get our head around them and decide that these often minor changes are ok. So many of the changes are surprisingly easy and painless!Go for a “grumpy” walk around your business once or twice every day and turn off things that are not being used and make a list of other ways you can save energy and reduce waste.

Seven Breakthrough Steps to Business Success

  • Posted on May 8, 2010 at 12:28 am

When I attend a career-related conference or seminar, one of the typical activities is asking each person to consider his or her life’s purpose. Then attendees are encouraged to share what they’ve concluded. As I listen, I’m constantly struck by how often such statements include the words “Help others to succeed in . . . “
I’m always encouraged to find someone has a powerful desire to help others through their careers. It’s no wonder that improvements are made in many areas: Cooperation based on a sincere desire to help is a good foundation for making such progress.
Curious about what motivates such desires, I often ask people why they want to help others. Some reflect on times when they received help and how important that had been in their lives. Others comment on the good feelings they experience from contributing to someone else’s progress. Still others observe that helping others is part of their values, often based in religious belief.
Let me contrast those heart-felt conversations with what I experience when I interview senior executives about their work and contributions. Rarely do such executives comment on having a desire to help others succeed or report having done so. Instead, they usually complain about how they feel out of sync with what their colleagues are focused on doing. Sometimes executives tell me that they don’t like their work very much.
With two such strong sets of different responses, it seems unlikely that people who want a more meaningful career of contribution will be nurtured towards such a career by these unhappy senior executives.
What path can you follow instead to add value to other peoples lives? Let me suggest seven breakthrough steps:
1. Find what you like to do.
2. Determine what way of helping others succeed means the most to you.
3. Assess what you need to learn in order to help in that way.
4. Explore ways to add that knowledge and experience.
5. Add the knowledge and experience.
6. Relocate to the place where the opportunities are greatest.
7. Ally with those who will nurture and encourage your work.
Let’s look at an example of someone who has followed these steps in order to better understand how you can build such a satisfying and rewarding career.
Find What You Like To Do
Barry Plotkin grew up in Scotland where he was fascinated by learning how things work. Building on that interest, he became a mechanical engineer. After earning his degree, Mr. Plotkin took a position in a large marine engineering firm. To his consternation, this job led him to realize that his interest in management was much greater than his interest in technology.
Determine What Way of Helping Others Succeed Means the Most to You
Mr. Plotkin changed jobs and became an installation supervisor for new plants. In this role, his team succeeded in finishing the work ahead of schedule and under budget. He enjoyed what he was doing and realized that improving management was the way he wanted to help others succeed. With more experience, however, he also realized that being more effective to earn more money didn’t feel rewarding — particularly when ethical and social needs were ignored in pursuit of more profit.
At first, he tried to help those managers who described themselves as very aggrieved by banking problems, customer difficulties, neglectful authorities, abusive suppliers, and exploitive employees. Unfortunately, Mr. Plotkin learned that these problems were mostly the result of the management’s own mistakes. After “helping” them to overcome the difficulties, management would usually revert to its bad habits.
Instead, Mr. Plotkin learned to work with those who accepted responsibility for their own results and wanted to improve, but were being genuinely held back by access to resources like money, know-how, experience, time, or manpower. Working with those individuals, Mr. Plotkin could do better professional work and accomplish more while feeling great about what he was doing.
Assess What You Need to Learn in Order to Help in That Way
Not having prepared for a management career, Mr. Plotkin found he had knowledge and skill gaps to fill. On his own, he learned about methods for improving process efficiency, marketing, public directorships, and accounting. He also realized that to be more successful in helping others he needed to become strong in strategy, organizational management, analysis, data management, and finance skills.
Explore Ways to Add That Knowledge and Experience
Although Mr. Plotkin made great strides in studying on his own, he realized that the knowledge he gained had ragged edges that could be smoothed by going through a more disciplined set of studies. An online MBA program that provided a choice of courses and study-time flexibility seemed like a good solution. After investigating 15 MBA programs, Mr. Plotkin selected the one at Rushmore University because its self-directed study methods left his success largely in his own hands while providing the structure and support he needed.
Add the Knowledge and Experience
Mr. Plotkin accumulated the knowledge that he lacked through applying what he learned from books to practical problems. In developing his answers, he benefited from regular reviews by his professors and editor. Although he was attending a virtual university, he was pleased to report that he had “acquired the confidence and capability to work with, rather than against, the market forces to increase my financial wellbeing without compromising my own set of business values. “
Relocate to the Place Where the Opportunities Are Greatest
After deciding to leave engineering, Mr. Plotkin and his wife had carefully considered where to live. They chose Israel because it seemed to provide them with “a dynamic cauldron of emerging possibilities. ” After earning his MBA, Mr. Plotkin realized that Israel was a good location for his career because the gap between management skills there and elsewhere was widening within many companies that had a good technical base for global success. But with limited skills, the many start-ups were having trouble attracting capital and entering external markets.
Ally with Those Who Will Nurture and Encourage Your Work
With his new-found knowledge, Mr. Plotkin realized that Israeli technology start-ups needed a wider range of services than he could provide by himself. A search for partners quickly enabled him to ally with people who shared his values and could assist the start-ups in those other ways.
As time passes, he hopes that success in helping others will permit him more time to explore personal interests and financial success to provide more for his family. With that success already delivering a higher quality of work and personal life, he is optimistic about his prospects.
Where are you in the process of adding more value to your career and that of others? Take the first step today by thinking more about what you like to do.

First Steps In Business – Writing The Perfect Business Plan

  • Posted on May 4, 2010 at 7:24 pm

When writing a business plan it is important to keep it as clear and concise as possible. If it is likely to be a lengthy document it is a good idea to provide a brief summary prior to the main document. Ten to twenty pages is the maximum length for an ideal business plan, any longer than this and you risk it being unappealing to the reader. It also needs to be readable and therefore in simple language, as it will often be read by people who may not understand your specialist area or knowledge. A business plan can be defined as a statement of intent. It is a written document which will detail a proposed venture, amongst other things it will explain the vision, needs and long term goals of the plan or project outlined. A good business plan needs to include:- a good initial summary that successfully summarises the details of the business plan, think about what you want to achieve ; the long term vision for the business- an overview of the business’ aims, it is essential that business goals are included, as well as explaining what the business does and any competitor information that may be relevant- the product or service- a financial forecast of the business, including information on how the product will be priced and any advertising or marketing plans that are involved. Don’t forget that a business plan can be adapted, it can be changed later on down the line as your business expands and changes.
